How to wire a dollshouse ?

Lighting a Dolls House is Easy!

Lighting a dolls' house is quick and transforms your house into a twinkling home. Follow our simple instructions, summarised here, to add magic to your house.

Add a touch of sparkle!

Lighting your dolls' house is quick, simple and very safe with our 12volt. Lighting systems. Best installed during construction, the two systems are explained above; you need to decide whether you want lots of sockets plugging into a Socket Strip at the back of the house (the Socket Strip Method), or the lights soldered onto Copper Wiring tape and only one wire coming from the back of the house to the transformer (the Copper Tape Method). We always use the Copper Tape Method as it gives a much neater and more robust finish.

Save with Lighting Sets

The easiest way to light your house is with a lighting set which includes the wiring kit, transformer. The Lighting Sets use the Copper Tape Method, so you may wish to purchase drill 2464, drill bit 1.5mm 5684, solder 5639 and soldering iron 5640 if you do not already have them. The Soldering Iron needs a 12-volt Transformer to power it, which is included in the lighting set. Basement lighting sets include only the lights; this is because we have ensured that there is enough capacity on the house transformer to power the basement lights and also there is enough copper wiring tape in the house Lighting Set to wire the basement saving you extra cost. You may wish to purchase the transformer connection cable 7235 to easily connect your basement circuit to your house transformer. Lighting Sets include everything you need and at good value.

Transformers

Transformers output 12 volts and have a circuit breaker, so if you exceed the recommended number of bulbs indicated in the description of the transformer, it is designed to safely cut out, protecting the lights and the transformer. Please note that it is the number of individual bulbs in the light fitting which you need to be aware of in assessing the size of transformer required, not the number of light fittings. The Transformer plugs directly into the usual square pin British socket. We also have transformers for use in Europe or USA.
